Bedtime Routine

Confession: We have a pretty crappy bedtime routine.

I seem to read everywhere that a bedtime routine is important: “bath, bottle, book, song, bed.”  Well, we do a bathe, feed, sleep routine.  Call me a bad mom, but I don’t read a book to my kid every night.  I don’t sing to her every night either.  I’m tired by this point. I can’t form a complete sentence!  All I am focused on is bathing her, feeding her, and getting her to sleep so I can get stuff done.  Do you know how hard it is to sew or craft while baby is awake?

I feel guilty about it sometimes because I’m already afraid that baby girl will be behind all the other kids (irrational and random mama paranoia).

Then I think… really, how important is it anyway?

  1. A bedtime routine is important but its not about about what you do exactly but that you do the same things each time. We don’t read a story and sing either but we do pretty much the same thing each night. It signals that its time to go to sleep. Just do what works for you.
