What if we…

What if we

stopped to see the beauty in the broken limbs?
the wilted trees
the grass and the mud and the slushy ground
that represents hearts
broken and bruised

What if we

started to listen more and talk less?
focusing on the broken hearts
wounded spirits
instead of believing religious debate
and ferocious apologetics
are what’s called for today

What if we

began to look beyond ourselves?
and focused on
taking care of the earth
and other people
listening to the needs of those around us
getting our hands dirty
and our hearts entangled
with what is truly important

Why do we

argue about religious diatribes
and fight over “what’s mine is mine and yours is yours”
where the rich becoming richer and poor becoming poorer
is somehow acceptable

who cares if the poor can’t eat?
I have my Bible and 401K
I don’t need to take care of the earth
“because this isn’t my home”

What if we

Began to love others because he first loved us?
brought good news to the poor
bind up the wounds of the brokenhearted
became caretakers of the earth
took care of the children and the widows

What if we became the merciful?
